It's Our City

Bill Demeter, presenter of It's Our City, asks the tough questions to get the truth
It’s Our City, Inc. was started in 2008 because of a growing concern and dissatisfaction with the way our Christchurch City Council; was being run. It has become more and more evident that the city is being run by the bureaucrats and less and less by our elected councillors and the mayor. The results are obvious -- less participation in decision making by residents, a high degree of secrecy and a clear lack of openness and transparency.

The Henderson bailout, the council flats 24% rent increase, the Ellerslie Flower Show fiasco and the mess with the Music Conservatorium at the Arts' Centre are the results of arrogant people in power thinking they can do what they want without input from residents.

You must ask yourself two simple questions: Firstly, to whom should the city belong? If you answered it should belong to the residents then ask the next question. Does the city actually belong to the people? It’s Our City exists to make sure we get this city back into the hands of the rightful owners and away from bureaucrats and back room politicians.

Our radio broadcasts interview people in the news, people who understand what is really going on and we do so with unrehearsed and difficult questions. We take the time to really try and understand what is going on. After all, it’s our city not the bureaucrats.

We broadcast every 2nd Tuesday and 11:30am and the program is repeated the following evening, Wednesday at 9:30pm. For more information visit our website at ioci.org.nz
