The weekend on Women on Air has their last programme for 2009. They'll be back in February 2010 and of course you can access the podcasts either on www.plainsfm.org.nz or www.womenonair.org.nz

Coming Up This Week...

1. In 1977, an idealistic young doctor's daughter, fresh out of university, knocked on the door of a run-down old house in inner-city Wellington. She was greeted by a woman in a Black Power t-shirt with metal in her nose and a bird tattooed on her left cheek. So began PIP DESMOND'S extraordinary time as a member of the AROHA TRUST , a work co-operative set up in the heady days of feminism, community activism & the first stirrings of the Maori renaissance. 30 years later, Pip has interviewed 11 of the women she worked with for 3 years. TRUST -a True Story of Women & Gangs - is a remarkable book. I talk with Pip, after 10.00

2. KARENA BROWN brings us up-to-date with what is happening, or should I say not happening, with the gender pay gap - do you realise women subsidise the economy by nearly $4 billion a year! NZ women earn at least 12% less - in average hourly earnings - than men. You can help by writing to your MP, the Ministers of Labour, State Services & Women's Affairs. - more information on www.union.org.nz/payequity

3. Journalist, REBECCA HAYTER , replied to an advertisement to complete the story of Paul Blacklow, who died of MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE. His wife wanted someone to interview family, friends & alternative therapists- all who had helped Paul have some quality of life when he was dying of this crippling disease. Along with conventional medicine, he used meditation, visualisation etc to gain some benefits for himself & his family . I talk with Rebecca about her book - WHAT YOU WISH FOR - now available - wishfor@xtra.co.nz

4. Morrin will be talking to JULIE BUISO after11.00 about her travels to New York and her new cookbook - "NEVER-ENDING SUMMER" hope to see some of you at Ng Cafe on Thursday 26 Nov. to try some of her delicious recipes. Tickets at Whitcoulls in Cashel St or Ph Morrin 329 9789

5.Our last comment for the year from linguist ELIZABETH GORDON

6. Crest to Crest: Impressions of Canterbury -- Poetry & Prose (Wily Publications); editor, Karen Zelas. Crest to Crest: Impressions of Canterbury -- Poetry & Prose has been recently launched by Wily Publications and features a selection of fiction and creative non fiction, memoir and poetry on the subject of Canterbury, from coast to high country, the city to the plains. The focus of the anthology is on contemporary writing and features 78 writers from throughout New Zealand, many of national and international repute, while others are newer voices. Crest to Crest was edited by Karen Zelas, a Christchurch poet and the fiction editor for Takahe magazine. This Saturday, Helen will talk with Karen about the process of putting together an anthology that reflects the significance of Canterbury as "our place", a place that may define us, both in living here but perhaps even more, in leaving and looking back.
