Te Manurewa o Tamapahore

A podcast series dedicated to the memory of Dame Kahurangi Ngāneko Kaihau Minhinnick of Ngāti Te Ata, Te Waiohua. Listen to the fascinating stories of people involved in the Te Manurewa o Tamapahore project and hear about the creation of haka, song, artwork, books, and unit plans for every school in Te Manurewa o Tamapahore (Manurewa, South Auckland). These resources were created to empower communities through Whakapapa (connections to genealogy, lands and waters), Manawaroa (overcoming obstacles and developing resilience, health, and wellbeing), and Piki atu ki te Rangi (reaching for the stars, achieving your dreams and aspirations).

Teariki Tuiono is the visionary behind the Te Manurewa o Tamapahore project. A primary school teacher from South Auckland, Te Manurewa o Tamapahore (Manurewa, South Auckland). Teariki approached the chiefs of Ngāti Te Ata - Roimata Minhinnick and Kapi Peita about sharing local Māori stories for schools in Manurewa. With their blessings, Teariki began the journey with mana whenua, teachers, and community leaders to develop teaching and learning resources for students to learn in Manurewa. Teariki is inspired by Dame Kahurangi Ngāneko Kaihau Minhinnick - a revered chieftain of Ngāti Te Ata, Te Waiohua who fought tirelessly for the protection and conservation of Ngāti Te Ata lands and waters for future generations. These resources are dedicated in her memory. Ngā mihi nui.
